PMP application project description queries

Hi Edward,

I am torn about how to correctly complete my PMP application. I am an insurance broker who design benefits packages for large and small companies. I also ensure the implementation of the product(s). I feel like, basically my verbiage would be the same exact response for each company. Current I have this for a response on the PMP application:

I was the project manager for a consultancy which was contracted by a large company. I managed a project that drafted and approved benefits packages. This project had a wide array of stakeholders, including the CEO, HR Directors and third party vendors from whom I had to collect requirements. I was responsible for defining and scheduling activities, and managing costs and procurements within this project. The deliverable was transitioned to HR and implemented. The project was a success, and was delivered on time, on scope and within budget.

Can I use the same exact response for each project? I am also a financial advisor who design investment plans for high net worth clients. How do I implement this to the PMP application? I am really stuck.

You response would is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thanks for your question.

Perhaps it is useful to revisit the definition of “project” according to PMI:

A project can be defined as a temporary endeavor undertaken to create a unique product or service.

To PMI, every project is unique. And I believe every project you have undertaken is unique. And I would highly suggest you to craft unique project descriptions for each individual project. You may include some details of the deliverables in each project. Or you may emphasis unique processes, requirements or environment surrounding each project. Just make an effort to make each project description as unique as possible.

Wish you PMP success!
