PMP Working Experience Query

First of all thank you very much for taking the time to gather all these information to help us.

I am a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer and I manage a team of designers doing project planning from concept to final design, but I do not plan the manufacturing install and commissioning. I am not sure if this qualifies as project management experience.

Hi Cristina,

Thanks for your question.

According to PMI,

A project is temporary in that it has a defined beginning and end in time, and therefore defined scope and resources. And a project is unique in that it is not a routine operation, but a specific set of operations designed to accomplish a singular goal.

It is likely that your experience can be considered as project management if you define your project deliverable as the final design. But please be reminded to check whether you have worked in ALL the five project management process groups including:

  • Initiating
  • Planning
  • Executing
  • Monitoring and Controlling
  • Closing

Do let me know if you require further assistance. Wish you PMP success!
