PMP Application Queries

Hi Edward,

Your site is very informative and useful! I have quite a lot of questions in my mind and your assistance is greatly appreciated:

  • No. of hours – how do i quantify the no. of hours when I fill out the form? Do I estimate 8 hours/day and assume there are 20 working days a month i.e. 640 hours/month?  In the form, I am required to fill out the hours for 5 areas, for instance on the “initiating the project”, do I put 320 hours if it took me half month, etc?
  • Contact info – I am currently with Company A but quite a major part of my PM experience is with my previous company, and unfortunately the supervisor I worked for has already retired from the company, how should I fill out the contact? could I put HR as primary stakeholder in case I can’t contact the supervisor?
  • Project experience – Must the project experience be past experience? i.e. can I fill in a project that I am currently working on which is targeted to be completed by end of this year?
  • I saw from your site that exam is available for enrollment on every Tue and Thur, however, seems like I can only see the schedule after my application is submitted and approval. How long does it take for the authority to screen my application?

Pardon me for throwing you with a long list of questions, look forward to hearing from you, thank you!

Regards,
Fiona

Dear Fiona,

Thanks for your questions. I am sure many Aspirants also have queries like these. Thanks for giving me the chance to explain these in more details.

  1. For the number of hours, as PMI does not encourage overtime, 8 hours/day and 5 days/week is a safe estimate (it is hard to calculate the actual hours). You are right for the number of hours for individual areas. But please remember you need to have some hours in every areas.
  2. You can still fill out the name of your then supervisor on the application form. And in case of a PMI audit, you can request your colleagues at that time to sign the forms for you as you cannot contact your previous supervisor.
  3. Current project experience are valid experience. You can fill in ongoing project experience in the form.
  4. It takes around 1 week to have your application processed. Then you will be asked to pay for the exam first before knowing whether you are required an audit. Afterwards, you will get the exam eligibility id which would allow you to book the exam slot immediately.

Hope these help. Wish you PMP success!
