ITIL v3 Exam to be discontinued in 2018? No!

Recently, many Aspirants of this blog question me whether the ITIL® v3 Exam will be discontinued in 2018. And they are at a loss of whether to begin their own ITIL® Foundation exam prep. Below is one of the comments:

… most exam bodies like EXIN, Pearson, Acquiros and BCS, etc. are not providing ITIL® exam vouchers which are valid beyond 31 Dec 2017 and have mentioned that the ITIL® Foundation Exam will be discontinued after that date. I am speculating if V3 is being replaced by V4 in 2018 or perhaps these agencies will no longer be attached to Axelos to conduct future ITIL® exams…

ITIL® v3 Exam remains in 2018

Luckily this is not the case.

The ITIL® v3 Exams (including ITIL® v3 Foundation and more advanced exams) will still be there and the same —  with no changes to the exam syllabus, difficulties nor the version of the ITIL® on which the exams are based. No announcement on the publication of ITIL® v4 has been made by Axelo (the owner of ITIL®).

Major changes are as follow:

  • Axelos has appointed PEOPLECERT as the sole provider of ITIL® exams from 1st January 2018. This means that from 2018 onwards, Aspirants will only be able to register, take and pass the ITIL® Exams with PeopleCert only. (for your information, my recommended ITIL® Foundation Exam training + exam package is accredited by PeopleCert, the exam coupon allows you to book exams beyond 2017!)
  • EXIN, PearsonVue, Acquiros and BCS, etc.will NO LONGER hold ITIL® Exams from 1st January 2018. That’s why Aspirants will no be able to schedule ITIL® Exams beyond 2017. However, these exam bodies only announce that their ITIL® Exams will be discontinued without details — shame on those exam bodies who do not make things clear in their announcements.

Aspirants: If you are considering whether to pursue ITIL® Foundation Certification, rest assured that you can still begin your ITIL® journey now, provided that you purchase your exam voucher / register for your exam with PeopleCert only if you indeed to take the exam in 2018. Otherwise, everything is the same as in 2017.

    Edward,

I just started reading your study notes to augment my ITIL Foundation exam prep efforts. Thanks for sharing your experience with the world / me.

I think Axelos is adding some DevOps and Agile topics into the curriculum later in 2018, maybe October? I hear that test questions may not change until at least December 2018.

To me, that just means I am focusing on taking the Foundation exam well before that time. Don’t take this as gospel, I just have heard it along the way.

    Cheers,
    Geoffrey Barnes, Sr.

Thanks for the news. I did not know that actually. Hope more details will be available soon.

Anyway, I am sure you will get ITIL foundation certified well before the change. Wish you ITIL success!

I recall that the itil foundation used to cost around £150 about 7 months ago. PeopleCert now want £330 to book the exam. I could spend that total amount to be MCSA Server qualified. What a rip off. This has put me off this certificate completely.

this price is totally ridiculous… it would cost more to get the ITIL Foundation than my CompTIA Security+!!!!
