Once You have Passed the PMP Exam …
After you have submitted your answers in the PMP exam or 4 hours is up, you will not immediately get your exam results but a short survey about your exam experience.
After you have submitted your survey answers, the PMP exam result will be shown.
Hopefully, with all the hard works you have put into your PMP study, you will get a congratulation message on the computer screen.

You are a PMP immediately and forever (if you renew)!
Ironically, the first thing that came to my mind after passing the PMP Exam was that I need to get the required PDUs to renew my Certification, I later learned that all the PDUs can be earned easily and for free by being a PMI member!
Congratulations, you are now a PMP. The center staff will print you a copy of the exam report (may include a signature and/or emboss). Keep the exam report in a safe place.
Once you have become a PMP under the current version of the PMP Exam, you will NOT be required to sit for another exam under a new PMP version if you renew your PMP Certification status continually (by earning PDUs and paying the PMP renewal fee). That’s why it is said that getting PMP Certification is the earlier the better!
As said, accidents do happen. If there are some technical errors and your results have not be recorded in PMI’s system, this exam report will serve as the only proof that you have passed (this is the real experience of one of the candidates who have shared their PMP lessons learned).
You are advised to discard this exam report only after you have received your PMP certificate (in around 6-8 weeks) but the exam report should double as a good souvenir of your PMP exam.
From the moment you have passed the PMP exam:
- You are allowed to use PMP after your name in your resume and on your website, etc. to indicate that you are PMP certified.
- You can download a soft copy of the PMP logo to include in your personal namecard (but remember you are not allowed to show the PMP logo on your website or company namecard).
- Your 3-year PMP re-certification cycle begins immediately (from the date of passing the PMP Exam, not from the date of getting the PMP Certificate) and you can earn PDU from this very moment on (any project management activities before this moment cannot be used to claim PDU).
- Your name and details will be listed in the PMP directory within 48 hours.
If you like, you can request a PMP lapel pin free of charge on the PMI marketplace. (The label pin will arrive in a separate package from the PMP certificate package)sorry, PMI has discontinued this souvenir….
The PMP certificate will reach your address by mail in 6 – 8 weeks in a package which include:
- PMP credential certificate
– the certificate only indicates that you are a PMP, without showing your proficiency levels from the exam. - a congratulatory letter
- information on how to maintain the PMP credential (i.e. PDU requirements)
Don’t forget to celebrate your hard earned victory. You deserve a party!
What’s Next?
From this moment, you will need to accumulate at least 60 PDU for your PMP re-certification. Don’t worry, you will have 3 years to complete this task. That means you just need to set aside 20 hours to earn PDUs (much easier than studying for the PMP Exam).

My story is a bit different from the others on your website – I did not pass on my first try, I failed my PMP twice. I had already given up to try for the third time when I found your blog. I brought the exam simulator subscription, dumped Rita’s book (it was not of much use to me at all) and I got above expectations in all 3 domains. Can’t thank you enough for your great exam tips, honest comments and useful resources. You are great!
I just wanted to mention PMP notified me they will not be sending hard copies of their certificates any longer due to the pandemic and carbon footprint. I found that a bit annoying since it was not mentioned anywhere when I applied.

I have just passed my PMP exam last Saturday with all AT on my 1st attempt. Thanks a lot for organizing such a wonderful material for exam preparation and review. I have been delaying taking the exam for so long and rushing to get it before the new exam next year (basically I crammed all the material in 1 month – very exhausting I think).
Lesson Learned:
1. Go to Edward website EARLY for PMP Exam news update when you plan to take PMP or research it from google. I basically took my sweet time and book my exam in 1 month time rushing to avoid next year changes.
2. Research more to get a “correct” PMP Contact Hours course. I originally took mine from Coursera for the contact hours, it was not so useful if I may say. But I did refresher again from Udemy – Joseph Philips. This one is amazing if your goal is to pass the EXAM. It will go through step by step from how to submit your application. It’s very cheap as well, till the end I am still thinking to buy it or not (should have listened to you from the beginning). So I spent literally the last 2 out of 3 days going through prep-cast.
I hope other people can learn a lot from my “mistake”. It is basically everywhere from start to finish.
Sorry for the long post. Conclusion, it is possible to finish everything in 1 month if you want to do it, it will be terrible but yes possible.
Udemy — less than 1 Week (3 hour weekday + 12 hours weekend)
Andy Crowe + PMBOK — 2 Weeks
Prep-Cast + Review from Edward Web — 1 Week (I think for each Prep-cast you need 5 hours in total exam + review)

I just want to say thanks for all your help in my PMP journey. I followed your plan and used Adam Crowe’s book along with PM Precast and Exam Simulator. I also used your study notes, formula sheet and other useful links form your site.
I passed the exam yesterday (March 11, 2019) with scores of 3 Above Target (Initiating, Monitor Control and Closing) and 2 Target (Planning and Executing).
I was surprised at my results since I scored higher in the exam simulator on Executing and Planning vs. how I scored on the real exam. I was also surprised that the formula questions were much more advanced in the real exam than those I had taken during practice exams.

I passed PMP in first try on NOV 12,2018. It took me approx 6 weeks time to plan (filing for exam) to pass the challenging exam. I studied on average 2-3 hours daily & 6-8 hours on weekends with complete dedication.
I want to thank you for the wonderful notes you shared via this website & maintaining the updates- it was of immense help to me to prepare. I went through prep cast video sessions to claim for 35hours PDU to appear for filing the exam application process. I passed yesterday with Above Target Overall (all above target except one below target in Closing), I want to say thank you for preparing this website and maintaining for the latest version, it was a vital study tool for me, I referred to it countless times. I had a terrible application audit experience (3 months to get it approved) so I was nervous about the whole process. I studied from late July (aprox. 3 months) evenings, weekends and any chance I had. I used your site, the pmbok, my bootcamp manual, a number of the free mock exams (Oliver Lehmann is great) and the previous version of Rita’s book (I was taking a chance referring to the previous version but by then I knew the differences). Anyway, thanks for this, its wonderful and I will refer anyone who is studying to check this out.

Some lessons I learnt.
1) In responding to answers and when studying for the exam, you need to ignore commercial reality, and move your head into PMBOK “Idealistic world”
2) Make sure you understand EVM (i had lots of questions on it)
3) If in doubt the answers is probably “Initiate integrated change control process” 🙂
4) Know your stakeholder types and how to deal with them (i had lots of questions on it)
5) Know your diagram types and what they are used for
5) Don’t get disheartened during the exam the questions in the exam are very vague and (probably intentionally) ambiguous, I had no idea if I had done well or not when I clicked “End Exam”…. and was very happy to see an “above target pass”
6) If self studying then from my own and colleagues experiences I would recommend you choose your training course carefully there are some really poor ones and you’ll spend a lot of time doing them…. if the course doesn’t have a refund policy, then possibly there is a reason they aren’t confident in the product (and sample modules aren’t always representative)

I have scoured the Web for resources that would supplement my learning, and I’ve always returned to your website. The up-to-date information, links, resources, and your experiences as presented on this site are a treasure trove of quality PM knowledge. For example, your 47+ “confusing terms” is SUPERB in getting to the essence of a concept, and I absolutely loved how you included a real example with each (i.e. an exam prep as a project). I took my PMP test yesterday and PASSED. Every result Above Target. (I was so relieved, and happy). I drew diagrams, took hours of practice exams, went through the PMBOK like crazy. Some lessons learned for others who will take the PMP exam…:
1. Read a variety of sources on concepts that are difficult – this website, PMBOK, a separate guide (like Kim Heldman’s), and other sites (like ASQ on Quality or even Wikipedia)
2. Because of fear, it can be easy to want to memorize and memorize details and terms, then get lost in the weeds. Step back and look at the whole picture, and how all the process groups fit and flow together.
3. Draw pictures, construct a stakeholder analysis matrix, imagine conflicts that have happened at your work – visualize the PM techniques and use them.
4. BELIEVE in yourself. Go into the exam with confidence.

I scored AT in 3 modules, 1BT and 1 Needs improvement, but my average was “Target” and am so glad I could crack PMP in my first attempt that too with quick little over a month prep. Your website and the numerous help tools it offered, helped me a great deal in achieving this goal. I felt the exam had more situational (not so lengthy though) questions than direct questions. 200 Qs in 240min is a definite challenge, so practicing full time mocks is very critical.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you SO SO SO much for your website. Your tips, notes, links, advice and everything you have provided here are super helpful to me. I have used them as my main guide during my study to pass the PMP exam. And Yes I did it. I just PASSED with 4 MP
It wasn’t easy at all. It was really tough!!
I would say around 80% of all the questions are not straightforward. I mean when I answered I wasn’t even sure I would get it right. only 20 % of the questions I was pretty confident that they were correct.
The easiest questions were related to calculations and PMP formulas. They were super easy. really just plug in the numbers.
Almost all the questions were situational and most of them were tricky. However, if you understand the concepts you will get the right answer at the end.
Lessons learned to share:
– Study well. It’s not an easy one!!
– This website is a MUST. It’s not an option. It will save you a lot of time and effort. It provides you with PMP golden nuggets and past exam takers experience.
– Andy Crowe book is perfect and I cant stress enough how chapter 14″How to pass the PMP Exam” was of a great help on the exam.
– It would be extremely difficult to pass the exam without taking many mock exams. Studying without taking mock exams is not a good thing. so plan your study time half for reading the reference guides and half for the mock exams. The baseline is to make sure to take all the referenced mock exams on this website at least once. And whether your answer is correct or wrong, make sure to read the explanation even if you get it correct just to make sure that you get it correct for the right reason and not by chance.
– I don’t feel you have to memorize the Inputs, Tools & Techniques and Outputs, if you understand the process, It should be okay. Again taking many mock exams will make sure that you understand the concept.
– The questions were not very lengthy. They were normal.

Thanks so much for your tips and PMP related articles, I passed my PMP certification on my first try with 5Ps (I can barely believe it myself!)!.
Your mock exam’s benchmarking is really insightful and the 47 commonly confused terms are also very valuable,
To all our fellow PMP aspirants I’d recommend:
– Plan your study and keep it up. You don’t need 5 months intensive study but you do need to make a consistent effort.
– Reading the PMBOK was helpful as there are a lot of words and terms that are vaguely discussed but could be on your exam questions. Also, PMBOK Process flowcharts really helped me to understand how different process related and interacted, this was really helpful, a lot more than memorizing ITTOs (which I didn’t!)
– I took an online course which I could watch several times, there are plenty out there, for me this was also really helpful as I could re-watch it and capture more information as I became more aware about PMI terms, definitions and relationships between them.
– Take quality mock exams!, Edward has a great list on his website and I would say his benchmark is really accurate. I didn’t find the exam much more “different” than quality mock exams online.
– Once on your exam, read your questions carefully and always remember to ask yourself “what is the main question here”
– To my fellow spanish-native speaking aspirants, If your English proficiency is good, I’d recommend you taking the PMP with language aids BUT try to pay more attention to the question in english, I found some of the spanish translated questions to be more confusing that their english counterparts and for this reason I’d recommend taking your study efforts in english as well.
Well, that’s it!, once again, thank you Edward for such a helpful website! I think in the future I might come around again looking for tips on the ACP certification! 😉
