What are the differences: Premier vs 2nd Edition

In PMI-ACP® Exam forums, everyone is asking what are the differences between the premier and second edition of the PMI-ACP® Exam Prep book by Mike Griffiths and whether one could still make use of the premier edition for current exam prep studies. Fortunately, the author, Mike Griffiths, has made the answers clear.

When questioned about the relevancy of the PMI-ACP® Exam Prep book Premier Edition to the new PMI-ACP® Exam, Mike Griffiths answered:

Yes, my book is still valid; it is based on the exam content outline that has not changed since the exam’s introduction. There are some minor changes coming July 15, but they are small and the book still covers the material.

Mike Griffiths has made it clear that the changes in the new edition are just minor ones:

Yes, I will later this year be releasing an updated version of my book [PMI-ACP® Exam Prep]. It will have the chapters renamed to match the new domain names and will incorporate the suggestions for changes I have received from readers to date. I have no target date yet and am still working on the details with the publisher, RMC. Until then my guide (and any other study materials) are still fine for studying from, as I explained earlier the changes are very minor.

Need to purchase the 2nd Edition for premier edition owners?

According to the answers by Mike Griffiths, the current premier edition of the PMI-ACP® Exam Prep is still useful for the new PMI-ACP® Exam. Everyone taking the PMI-ACP® Exam now or after July 2015 will be able to take advantages of the book to help them pass the PMI-ACP® Exam (I also based my PMI-ACP® Exam study largely on the PMI-ACP® Exam Prep book by Mike Griffiths and got proficient in both domains).

My suggestion is: if you have the premier edition, you can still make good use of it to help you with your PMI-ACP® Exam prep, you will just have to take note of the changes in the new structure of the exam syllabus. Of course, it is the best to get hold of the 2nd edition.

RMC has also released a new set of study materials for the updated PMI-ACP® exam — a book (PMI-ACP® Exam Prep by Mike Griffiths 2nd Edition), a set of flashcards and an exam simulation application.

Wish you PMI-ACP® success!

Hello Edward, It would really helpful if you can let me know if there are major changes compared to “PMI-ACP Mike Griffiths Premier Edition Jan 31 2012” and “PMI-ACP Mike Griffiths – Updated Second Edition latest book after Oct 2015- including 2018 exam change”. I have already gone through “Premier Edition Jan 31 2012 book” to appear for PMI-ACP certification. Do I have to go through “Updated Second Edition latest book after Oct 2015- including 2018 exam change” as well?. I couldn’t able to find out what are the changes happened in latest version. Do you have pdf copy of latest version ?

    • Hi Montoo,

Actually, there are not a lot of changes in the new PMI-ACP Exam. It is highly advised to read all the 2nd edition to know the changes in wordings and terminology, etc. But if you have already gone through the 1st edition, it is already great. However, you are highly advised to practice using exam simulators based on the latest edition of PMI-ACP Exam.

      Wish you PMI-ACP success!

Do we have pdf version or ebook of Mike Griffiths book being sold anywhere?

  5. Hi Waqas,

You are right. If there is a complete list of amendments this would serve readers of the premier edition well.

By the way, I have checked and compared the PMI-ACP Exam Content Outline of both the old and new exams and found that almost all the elements are already present in the “old” exam (and thus old reference books). It is indeed a minor change as mentioned by Mike Griffiths besides the re-organization of the topics and sequences.

    Wish you PMI-ACP Exam success!

Thanks very much for sharing the answer from Griff.
As I understand the second edition is already available. I still have the premier edition and would like to do the exam in Feb 2016. Despite of this articel above I am bit worried. The reason, I read few amazon comments where some people stated that the “premier edition” is outdated completley.
    What is your opinion?

    • Actually, the new PMI-ACP exam is quite similar to the previous one as the knowledge of Agile remains relatively unchanged. What has change drastically is the organization of the chapters. Since this book is aligned with the PMI-ACP Exam Content Outline, the changes in the content outline are reflected in the 2nd edition of PMI-ACP Exam Prep by Mike Griffins. But as said, it is, in practice, re-ordering of the sections only. Quite a few PMI-ACP candidates taking the new PMI-ACP Exam has reported that they could pass using the Premier Edition as their main reference book.

Of course, if you are still worried, it may be better for you to purchase the 2nd edition to clear any doubts. Having confidence is one key element of passing the PMI-ACP exam.

      Wish you PMI-ACP success!

It would have been better if the author would have made a blog post highlighting the main changes in the book. At least the renaming of the chapters etc. im in the same situation of gaving premier. Wish i can get a glimpse of second edition to see what changes have been done actually ..
